Concrete steps towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals

In September 2,000 in New York City, 189 countries, including Honduras, reached a consensus, on the need for the implementation of eight universal human development goals and eighteen specific targets that should contribute to the significant reduction of extreme poverty by the year 2015. More than just universal human development goals, they represent values and human rights such as the fight against hunger, the right to basic education, the right to health and the responsibility towards future generations. ABC Honduras makes concrete contribution towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals which are:

		Eradicate extreme poverty & hunger		Halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger		Thanks to our sponsors, all our children are provided with one warm meal, prepared on site by a local cook, and a snack every day of school.
		Achieve universal primary education		Ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling		Our work began by building and running the rural elementary school “Repúplica de Francia”.
		Promote gender equality and empower women		Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015		Currently, the group of children and teenagers whose academic education is our responsibility consists of 20 girls and 21 boys (February 2010).
		Reduce child mortality		Reduce by two thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate		In its 2006 Report on Human Development In Honduras, UNDP states that child mortality rate is directly linked to the level of education of the mother. The content of the books Mis PrimeraSEXplicaciones (both for teenagers and their parents) and Seré Madre are a direct contribution to risk prevention of under five mortality rate, maternal mortality rate and the spread of aids through the empowerment by knowledge of largest population group in terms of absolute numbers and in terms of future socio economic significance in Honduras.
		Improve maternal health		Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio Achieve universal access to reproductive health
		Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases		Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
		Ensure environmental sustainability				Our children, together with volunteers conduct specific activities towards that goal. For example garbage collection to minimize environmental pollution.
		Develop a global partnership for development				Our partners in Germany, France and England, not to mention the nationality of our godmothers, godfathers and institutional sponsors, are a concrete proof that country borders are not limits to achieve common goals.
