The school year has started on February 1st, 2010. The kids are excited to start again and enjoy the newly painted school.

After the children had one week vacations because of the Semana Santa (the easter week) we sent the children of the primary school to a medical examination which took place at the center of health in the little rural community Yaruca.

On a nice warm day we left the school to go swimming at the river.

There is a lot of trash in the rural communities and around. The people here do not have an ecological awareness and throw their waste in the nature. We instructed our children to bring plastic bottles to the school with the final objection to recycle them. After 2 weeks we collected about 2500 plastic bottles, which is a great success. In exchange for each bottle they receive a small chocolate candy.
From El Portillo the plastic bottles are brought to the community “Las Mangas”.
In Las Mangas lives a handicapped man whose name is Joel. He will clean the bottles and remove the lids. Finally they are carried to a recycling company in La Ceiba.

In the beginning of February the students received from ABC Honduras, financed by you as the sponsors, two pairs of uniforms and school materials.

Around the "Escuela republica de Francia" there is a lot of work done right now. Don Tascho, the carpenter repairs windows, tables, chairs and boards. He paints a small part of the school, trims wood to fit, installs a white board, and a water system with drip rails. Up to now, every morning two or three children had to bring waterbottles of 20 Liters up to school. In the near future we can change it with the help of this watersystem.

The independence day in Honduras: Colegio El Rey participated in a big parade in La Ceiba. They were marching to the rhythm of their own band. Many thousands of spectators gathered together for the marching.

Dia del nino: The day of the child. We celebrated this day at two different places. One day we spent with the primary school El Progreso. The children got a meal, an ice cream and we did handicrafts. The following day we celebrated in our school. We had a Pinata (A paper animal filled up with candies)

In the school "Escuela Republica de Francia" our teacher Tiffani started a new project: The children built up a vegetable patch. At the end of october we will harvest a lot of cucumbers.

ABC Honduras organized a concert: The chamber orchestra of Leipzig played in the high school El Rey in Rio Viejo. Our children and students were sitting in the first rows and all students of El Rey were present. It was an amazing event and the young audience liked it a lot.

Florent left the project in August after spending a great year with ABC-Honduras.
We also welcome our two new German volunteers Moritz and Timm.

Like the year before Laurence McCormick was working in Honduras for this projekt. She spend 2 month helping and organizing a lot.

Timm Koennecke and Moritz Hebebrand are the two new volunteers for the year 2008/2009 to support the ABC-Honduras Project.

The former civil servant Franz Toaspern (2004/05) visited the project.

During the summer Laurence McCormick visited ABC-Honduras. She spent almost 2 months helping us with the school and the training center.
We also welcome our new two volunteers Moritz and Florent from Germany and the new teacher.

We made a wonderful excursion to the Cayos Cochinos with the kids of the Escuela República de Francia and the next day I made a little party at the river, because it was my last day in the project. I had a really nice time with ABC-Honduras. Good bye, Henning Herholz!

We celebrated the Mother's Day of the Escuela Republica de Francia! It was a nice party with food, music and games. The children sang some songs and read poetry. Everyone enjoyed this pleasant time.

This week a Medical-Day took place in our little school. The nurse from Pital came to administer inoculations, give vitamins and teach/inform the ABC-Kids about diseases and hygiene.

The new school year has started and all of the children are very excited!Especially the little Mario (left bottom corner). All of the 18 children will receive classes in the same room, beacuse there will be only one teacher and one volunteer this year. Furthermore we have built a nice new raft, because the old one was taken away by the river.

Successfully we handed out the school uniforms for the next year and cleaned the school building. Finally everything is ready for the new school year!

We had our great annual "Christmas Party"! This year all the children got books as presents. They were really happy and enjoyed the delicious food.

Today is the German "Nikolaus Tag" and our ABC-Kids are making Christmas cards for their sponsors abroad.

Our kids of the Escuela Republica de Francia took part in a big soccer match in Las Mangas! Two schools of La Ceiba and the school "El Progresso" from Las Mangas were our opponents.

The Colegio El Rey made a big Parade in Rio Viejo to celebrate the Independence Day of Honduras.

The new civil servant Henning Herholz started to work in the ABC-Honduras project. He is the third volunteer after Franz Toaspern (04/05) and Ferdinand Stenglein (05/06) who is going to support the Escuela Republica de Francia. Welcome, Henning Herholz!
